Issue: Veterans Benefits

Support S. 13, fulfilling our Duty to America's Veterans Act of 2005 offered
by Sen. Akaka. This bill would expand and enhance health care, mental
health, transition, and disability benefits for veterans. It would ensure
that funding for these programs would not be cut to pay for tax cuts for the
rich or for exorbitant spending in other areas of the federal budget.

Dear Senator:

I am writing to urge your support for S.13 a bill that would expand and
enhance health care, mental health, transition, and disability benefits for
veterans.

I am shocked to see the President and some members of Congress eager to cut
or scale back veterans' benefits in order to pay for their favorite programs
or to pay for tax cuts for the rich that have ballooned the federal budget
deficit.

People who serve in the armed forces, and especially those who are injured
in the line of duty, and their families deserve not only our rhetorical
support but also our material support. This seems obvious to me, so why is
it so difficult for members of congress to understand?

Veterans' benefits should never be sacrificed to pay for other financial
problems our government may be experiencing. Let's provide the necessary
health care veterans need.

Sincerely,
